Digital health companies have been drawing investor attention, with 2016 on pace for a record year in funding to private companies despite a deal slowdown.
As the category has developed, there has been a significant increase in exits as well, with more than 165 happening in 2015. This number more than doubled the exits seen in 2012. 2016 has seen a slightly slower pace in the first half of the year with 78 exits, including the $1.6B+ IPO of NantHealth and the $800M acquisition of Brightree by ResMed.
Most active acquirers
Since 2012, IMS Health has been the most active acquirer of digital health companies such as Dimensions Healthcare and Dataline Software. Under Armour came in a close second, with several fitness data acquisitions including MyFitnessPal, MapMyFitness, and Gritness.
