Today on September 8, the 12 startups from the Techstars Mobility Class of 2016 will present at the accelerator’s annual demo day. The companies belong to the second annual class of the Detroit-based accelerator, which focuses on automotive mobility technologies and services that enable people and goods to move more freely.
We used the CB Insights database to pull together company information and financing data on these startups. As part of the Techstars Mobility program, all have received $120,000 in funding; however, some have already received additional funding from other investors. We’ve noted these additional disclosed investors and funding totals for the applicable startups.
Near the bottom, we also included information on two other startups that, while not part of the class, have been active mentors and are announcing Detroit offices operating in Techstars Mobility’s space at the demo day. As part of the demo day, Ford will also be announcing working relationships with three of the startups from this class (details below).
1. Acerta

Acerta is an enterprise platform that uses machine learning to detect anomalies and predict failures in real time, either for vehicles coming off the assembly line or those currently being driven.

Algocian is an edge computing platform using deep learning to provide video analytics for security and autonomous vehicle applications. Its Artemis 1 is built to work out of the box with camera feeds in a wide range of environments.

3. Braiq

Braiq personalizes the ride experience in autonomous vehicles by using artificial intelligence to teach cars how to better read human emotions.

4. Cargo

Cargo is an in-car marketplace for the ride-sharing economy, allowing drivers to earn more money and improve their riders’ experience by providing goods on-the-go. The company is one of the three startups that Ford will be announcing a working relationship with at the demo day.

5. Donut Media

Donut Media is a digital media startup for the next generation of car fans. The company targets millennial and Gen Z enthusiasts of automobiles and motorsports.

6. Drive Spotter

Drive Spotter is a machine learning platform that trains human drivers and autonomous vehicles for enterprise fleets. It provides real-time video search for fleet management.

7. GoKid

GoKid is a carpool solution for schools, teams and active families, helping parents carpool with families they know and trust.

HAAS Alert is a mobile vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) platform that delivers preemptive notifications to motorists, informing them of the road ahead. The company is one of the three startups that Ford will announce a working relationship with at the demo day.

Hero is an enterprise platform that reduces insurers’ liability from drunk driving by providing bars and restaurants with a mobile solution that incentivizes customers to get home safely.

10. Rally

Rally is a marketplace connecting groups, event-goers, and commuters for crowd-sourced transportation. Rally is announcing a partnership with the Detroit Pistons that will make it easier for fans to get to upcoming games this winter.

11. Spatial

Spatial aims to provide a dynamic, human-driven layer of social intelligence for maps and navigation. The company is developing a location API using artificial intelligence to answer queries, and is one of the three startups that Ford will announce a working relationship with at demo day.

12. Voyhoy/Resertrip

Voyhoy and Resertrip are multi-modal booking platforms that help people save time and money when traveling long distances by bus, plane, train, ferry, and rideshare. Voyhoy operates in Latin America, while Resertrip operates in Europe.

Mapbox

Mapbox is a mapping platform for developers, allowing them to integrate location into any mobile or online application. In June 2016, Mapbox announced Mapbox Drive, a SDK designed for use in cars equipped with autonomous navigation capabilities.
The company is not part of the class, but will be opening an office in Detroit, operating out of the Techstars Mobility Space.

Polysync (Harbrick Technologies)

Harbrick Technologies is a robotics company that is developing Polysync, an operating system for autonomous cars that turns algorithms, sensors, and actuators into plug-and-play apps. It simplifies complex systems, making powerful software faster to build, easier to maintain, and safer to operate.
The company is not part of the class, but will be opening an office in Detroit, operating out of the Techstars Mobility Space.
