CUMBERLAND, Md.--( BUSINESS WIRE )-- Peak Harvest Health (PHH), a Maryland-based medical cannabis manufacturing company pursuing a cultivation license from the Natalie M. LaPrade Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission , today announced plans to partner with Western Maryland Health System (WMHS) to offer qualified patients medical cannabis to treat pain, cancer, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions in accordance to state regulations. WMHS last year diagnosed more than 2,200 patients with diseases that could potentially be treated with medical cannabis under Maryland law, sparking its interest in how this newly available medication could serve their patient population. “Providing safe and effective medicine to patients that need it is PHH’s number one priority, and partnering with WMHS will help us quickly reach people in the most need,” said Ethan Ruby, CEO of PHH. “With a focus on patient-centered care and improving the health and well-being of people in the communities they serve, WMHS is a perfect partner for PHH, and we look forward to working closely with their more than 400 physicians and healthcare professionals to provide the best possible care for their patients.”
Together WMHS and PHH hope to collaborate on research to advance the science of medical cannabis, with a goal of producing the most effective formulations for future use. They also will create an educational plan for doctors, healthcare providers, patients and caregivers for the use of medical cannabis; and develop patient studies to track health outcomes and costs associated with the use of medical cannabis, including, but not limited to, the reduction of opioid use, abuse and dependence. “Partnering with PHH was not a decision we considered lightly. German and US partners join forces in stem cell research to speed development of therapies
Peak      Harvest Health (PHH), a Maryland-based medical cannabis      manufacturing company, today announced that it will be partnering with Frostburg      State University (FSU) to explore ethnobotanical research      opportunities and workforce development in Western Maryland. The partnership will potentially provide employment for graduates of the      university’s ethnobotany, biology and chemistry programs. “FSU has the only ethnobotany major in the U.S., as well as an extensive      program focusing on understanding the medicinal value of plants,” said      Ethan Ruby, CEO of PHH. “By working together, we hope to educate the      next generation of scientists and provide job opportunities for them in      Western Maryland, while also benefiting from the medicinal plant      research done by the university.”
PHH also agreed to underwrite initial funding of a research incubator      called the Appalachian Cannabis Research Cooperative (ACRC). The ACRC      would provide universities around the region with the opportunity to      experiment, to the extent possible under state and federal laws, with      the technologies and advancements that are rapidly emerging in the field      of cannabis cultivation, data collection and processing, and then share      their research and technological innovations with PHH for testing,      implementation, validation and practical application. The ACRC also      would work with PHH to create data analysis tools and produce white      papers based on product-related data collected from patients or related      to clinical tests that PHH hopes to conduct. For the past year, FSU officials have been meeting with and exploring      potential opportunities with PHH, including site visits to the      Connecticut cultivation facility of Theraplant, PHH’s sister company. At      Theraplant, FSU officials were able to see first-hand the company’s      ability to produce medical cannabis in a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical      environment with mandatory independent laboratory testing, which      Maryland’s medical cannabis regulations also require. “Our faculty and students are very much interested in how plants, and      the complex ways in which they exist in nature, can be used for health      purposes.
