Fred Wilson had an interesting post this morning entitled “There are Two Venture Capital Industries” in which he discussed the difference between VC investing in software-based businesses vs. what he describes as a second VC industry which invests in cleantech, biotech, computer hardware and other capital intensive technology businesses.
Here is the data for these two venture capital industries from 2002 to-date. Specifically, we look at the breakdown and compare the “two VCs” by number of deals, amount of venture funding and median deal size.
