Investors are betting big on a range of mobile services in the on-demand economy – to the tune of $1.37 billion in the first three quarters of 2014. By way of definition, on-demand mobile startups are those that ‘aggregate demand on mobile devices but fulfill that demand through offline services.’
Inc. featured CB Insights data on the on-demand mobile funding boom with an eye-catching infographic. Check it out below.
In our earlier research, we detailed that follow-on rounds in the ‘Uber for X’ category were significantly larger than average deal sizes across the mobile category. And looking at rounds since Q3 2014, that continues to bear out. For example, Luxe Valet bulked up with a $20M Series A in February. Just last October, the on-demand parking app raised a $5.5M seed VC round. Instacart, the on-demand grocery delivery service, closed a $220M Series C at a $2B valuation in December after raising a $44M Series B in June.
In fact, on-demand mobile startups have raised an additional $1.02B since the end of Q3 2014, according to CB Insights data.
