As corporates and governments race to arm themselves against cyberthreats, it is boom time for venture investments into cybersecurity companies. Over the last five years, CB Insights tracked $7.3B into cybersecurity companies. Funding in 2014 alone broke the $2B barrier.
Along with the growth in deals and funding, M&A activity in the cybersecurity space has also picked up. This week, U.S. arms maker Raytheon acquired Websense from private equity firm Vista Equity Partners for $1.9 billion.
As the cybersecurity industry descends on San Francisco for the 2015 RSA Conference, we used CB Insights Board of Directors Search to highlight some of the VCs you should know in the cybersecurity area. Below is a graphic of 11 of the most prominent cybersecurity VC investors based on board participation (observer/director). The investors come from a range of highly active firms in the space including Kleiner Perkins, Intel Capital, Trident Capital and Andreessen Horowitz – where both GP Scott Weiss and board partner John Jack frequently take board seats.
