In recent months, we’ve heard several major automakers have mulled establishing their own venture arms, as OEMs are aggressively investing in startups as a conduit for tech innovation.

With non-tech buyers as a whole becoming a force in tech acquisitions (like GM with Cruise), the topic of outsourced corporate R&D was a major topic at last week’s CB Insights Innovation Summit.
