Sequoia Capital has seen 12 of its former investments acquired by Cisco, while NEA has seen 10.
Cisco’s acquisition of network virtualization company Viptela for $610M marked its third M&A move in 2017 to date.
Viptela also marked Cisco’s 12th acquisition of a company previously backed by one of Cisco’s own original backers, Sequoia Capital. This latest acquisition targeting a Sequoia company comes 30 years after Sequoia partner Don Valentine first invested in the networking giant.
Among Sequoia’s notable M&A exits that count Cisco as a buyer are OpenDNS(acquired for $635M in 2015), Meraki (acquired for $1.2B in 2012), and Jasper(acquired $1.4B in 2016).
