Recent legislative bills and research studies are shedding new light on the safety of sunscreen ingredients, driving interest & innovation across the space.
Sunscreen is attracting a new level of attention.
In May, Hawaii voted to ban sunscreens containing active ingredients known as oxybenzone & octinoxate — chemicals that can harm coral reefs. Key West, Florida also moved to ban the sale of sunscreen products containing these ingredients earlier this year.
These legislative events have coincided with renewed interest in the space by the FDA. In addition, new research studies have begun to question our widely accepted beliefs around sun care and the safety of some of the most commonly used ingredients.
