In 2020, global smart cities companies raised $11.6B across 411 deals, reflecting a 38% increase in funding alongside a 13% decline in deal volume. Meanwhile, follow-on rounds for urban mobility companies pushed funding higher.
In 2021 YTD, smart cities deals are still on pace to decline slightly. Nevertheless, funding and M&A are on pace to increase, reflecting greater maturity in the ecosystem and sustained long-term demand for smart cities projects.
