A one-size-fits-all approach no longer cuts it. Personalization has hit every industry from beauty to apparel to medicine.
Personalized nutrition, in particular, has taken off. With applications ranging from virtual nutritionists to genomics-driven nutrition test kits to personalized vitamins, startups in the space have seen significant investment as they aim to curate dietary guidance based on health and lifestyle factors.
We used the CB Insights database to surface 18 notable early-stage tech startups serving the personalized nutrition sector. We selected these companies based on recency of funding, investor quality, and Mosaic score — CB Insights’ algorithm that uses financial and non-financial signals to predict private company health.
We noted several themes among the companies we selected, including:
- Mobile-first approach: allows consumers easy access to nutrition advice and content via mobile apps
- Chatbots: offer virtual nutritionist capabilities for on-demand nutrition expertise
- Holistic emphasis on wellness: integrates lifestyle factors beyond nutrition including fitness, mental health, sleep, stress, and more
