304.77 mph: Bugatti said that its high-end Chiron model broke the speed record for a mass-produced car after it reached a speed of 304.77 mph — about 40% the speed of sound.
500+ years: Researchers at the National Gallery of London uncovered a draft version of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Virgin of the Rocks — painted over half a millennium ago — hidden beneath the finished painting. The gallery said that the concealed outline was created with a material containing zinc, allowing a technique called macro X-ray fluorescence to image the work by detecting the element’s presence.

Singapore got a new ATM this year: instead of cash, it dispenses frozen salmon fillets.
The first salmon ATM was unveiled in Singapore’s Wisteria shopping mall in January. Now the island has dozens.
Each fillet sells for $4.25, and because they are stored in temps of -4 degrees F, they reportedly stay fresh for up to 2 years.
