Insurers moonlighting as VCs
Earlier this year, Aviva CEO Mark Wilson said he thinks “insurance is in the Stone Age while other people are circling Mars.”
The elephant in the room for insurers is that tech giants are also gunning for insurance. Alibaba and Tencent were initial investors of online P&C insurer Zhong An, while Rakuten has its own life insurance unit.
