Equity investments and grants from governmental agencies have significantly decreased since 2012.
Using CB Insights’ Investor-Acquirer Search, we were able to identify 37 US government investors that have participated in equity financing rounds to private companies since 2012.
Most of these agencies are state-level organizations like Vermont Seed Capital Fund, but there are also federal agencies such as DARPA and local governments as well. Topping the list of government equity investors are the Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund, NYC Seed, SC Launch, and the State of Wisconsin Investment Board.
All those investors have taken equity positions in 10 or more companies since 2012.
