While fragrance often gets a year-end boost — over a third of fragrance sales occur during the holidays — there is more to the rising interest in fragrance and scent in 2020. While overall sales for fragrance products, ranging from candles to cologne, were down around 17% year-over-year from January to September 2020, the category turned positive in Q3, buoyed by strength in home scents.
Interest in aromatherapy and fragrance has climbed to record levels in 2020, as global uncertainty surrounding the pandemic has spurred consumers to seek out aromatherapy as a form of self-care and stress relief.
