Whenever there is a rush into a tech category with gargantuan funding amounts, we’re reminded of the “daily deal” craze ushered in by Groupon, LivingSocial, and hundreds of other copycats.
That phase is usually followed by one of two outcomes:
- If a big winner begins to emerge, investment keeps flowing (example: ride-hailing)
- If no big winner emerges, capital dries up (example: subscription e-commerce)
