In advanced talks to acquire Bonobos, Walmart has already acquired 3 D2C brands this year.
Last week it was reported that Walmart is in advanced talks to acquire Bonobos, a men’s clothing startup. Walmart has ramped up M&A since it acquired Jet.com and founder Marc Lore — onetime co-founder of Diapers.com — became Walmart’s head of e-commerce.
Over the past few months, Walmart and Jet have acquired women’s clothing site ModCloth, outdoor apparel chain Moosejaw, and e-commerce shoe platform ShoeBuy. That’s after Walmart acquired only 1 company in 2016 (Jet itself, for $3B) and only 2 in 2015.
Like Modcloth, Bonobos launched as an online-only retailer, though it’s since launched dozens of “guideshops,” or brick-and-mortar locations for trying on clothing.
