In June, The New York Times reported on potential increased legislation intended to keep closer tabs on Chinese investment into the US. At issue are concerns that such investments could help China expand its technological and military abilities.
In the wake of such concerns, we analyzed CB Insights data to understand how much investment to the US tech industry China-based investors have participated in, as well as which technologies Chinese investors have been most interested in over the last five years.
We define Chinese investment as participation in private financing rounds by investors (corporate, venture capital, angel, private equity, etc.) headquartered in mainland China. This analysis does not include investors headquartered in Greater China (e.g. Hong Kong or Taiwan).
