For Amazon, AWS represents 62% of 2018 H1 earnings, and Microsoft and Google have made expanding cloud market share and IP a major priority over the last few years.

Using CB Insights Patent Analysis tool, we analyzed the top 20 patent topics for Amazon, Microsoft, and Google over the last 5 years to see how critical cloud services are to each company. While there was some variations in their focus, all 3 devoted a fair amount of attention to the cloud.
