Amazon is the largest e-commerce player in the US, but the tech giant’s ambitions extend far beyond e-commerce to include areas like media, web services, and financial services.
In the US, Amazon is primarily focused on offering financial products in order to acquire and retain consumers and merchants, as well as to support Amazon’s existing lines of business.
However, as Amazon continues to gather more data on its customers and expand into competitive international markets, the e-commerce giant is starting to move closer into direct competition with financial services incumbents.
