2015 is on track to be a record-setting year of venture funding to IoT startups, and as the Internet of Things continues to touch nearly every business category it’s important to know which companies are leading this sea-change in computing.
Using CB Insights’ Mosaic algorithm, which combines public data and a predictive algorithm to assess the momentum of private companies, we identified some of the hottest IoT startups.
Heading up our list was a three-way tie between Coin, Razer, and Sonos.
Coin is a connected device that contains credit, debit, gift, loyalty and membership cards in one place. Coin raised a Q2’14 Series A from K5 Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Sherpa Capital, SoftTech VC and Spark Capital, and later sold a minority stake to Credit Saison. The startup recently announced a partnership with Mastercard to strengthen its wearables payment system.
Sonos raised a $130M Series E round in Q4’14 from Index Ventures and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. Sonos has nearly become a household name with its line of connected home speakers, and it recently announced the ability to connect with Apple Music.
Razer, a gaming hardware maker that currently offers connected portable speakers and a wearable, as well as a host of PC-centric gaming peripherals. Razer last raised a Series B in Q4’14 from Intel Capital at a $1B valuation.
Following those three was Strava, a platform for athletes to track data from wearables and GPS watches.
