Here is one of the largest domestic mergers in the building materials sector

Jan 18, 2022

January 17, 2022 One of the largest domestic mergers in the building materials manufacturing sector has been completed: Semmelrock Burkolatkő Kft. Has been merged into Wienerberger Zrt. A few days ago, on the first day of the new year, Semmelrock Burkolatkő Kft. This will create one of the most complex and largest companies in the entire Hungarian building materials industry. Complemented by PipeLife Hungária Kft., Also owned by Wienerberger, a group of companies with a turnover of more than HUF 50 billion is being formed. On the last day of last year, one of the major mergers of the domestic building materials manufacturing sector was completed. On January 1, Semmelrock Stein + Design Burkolatkő Kft. Merged into Wienerberger Téglaipari Zrt. – The former is a manufacturer of Porotherm ceramic bricks, slabs, Tondach ceramic tiles and roof systems and Terca façade cladding, while the latter is a major player in the domestic paving and cladding market. With the merger of Semmelrock, Wienerberger will become a company with a portfolio that is able to meet the needs of its wide range of customers. “The move will help us become the most reputable company providing the full range of elements needed for building envelope structures. Our clear goal with this line-up is to further strengthen our market position and be present in Hungary as a company that can offer a unique offer and customer experience to its customers, ”said József Tarsoly, CEO of Wienerberger Zrt. (Below). 8 cities, 10 plants Following the merger, Wienerberger Zrt. Will continue to operate as a company with a turnover of approximately HUF 35 billion on the basis of the audited data for 2020. Added to this is the performance of PipeLife Hungária Kft., Which manufactures pipes and complete pipe systems for building engineering and utility projects, as well as for agricultural use. The latter company is wholly owned by Wienerberger. The group’s annual sales in 2020 exceeded HUF 50 billion. This makes companies a major industrial player beyond the production of building materials. The group of companies is one of the 300 Hungarian companies with the highest turnover. * The interests are among the outstanding employers of Hungarian industry. A total of 10 plants are operated in 8 Hungarian settlements (Balatonszentgyörgy, Békéscsaba, Csorna, Debrecen, Felsőzsolca, Kőszeg, Ócsa, Tiszavasvári), where the number of employees approached 1,000 in 2021. Companies with a huge past Wienerberger’s domestic subsidiary was established in 1990 by the Austrian parent company, which now has a history of more than 200 years. The domestic appearance was only the second stage of foreign expansion. Over the past three decades, Wienerberger Zrt. Has become a leading player in the Hungarian masonry market and the largest producer of ceramic bricks in Hungary – many of its plants have a history of 120-130 years. Among the goals, the support of the Hungarian construction industry will play an important role, among other things through the strengthening of domestic production and the creation of high added value. Thus, with a few exceptions, domestic needs are met essentially from home. Thanks to this, the company can play a strategic role in the supply of building materials in Hungary. A supplier that contributes greatly to an adequate level of domestic supply of masonry equipment. In addition, the company’s export activities are also worthwhile: Kőszeg is one of the most important European bridging manufacturers in the Wienerberger Group, while the roof tiles in Békéscsaba are well known in the markets of Slovakia, Romania and several Balkan countries. In addition, trucks regularly depart from the brick factories in Tiszavasvár and Békéscsaba for foreign markets. The management also places great emphasis on domestic research and development. In addition to several innovative products, one of the emblematic results of this was the Potortherm X-therm ceramic brick, which was created in 2021 together with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Thanks to this corporate philosophy, Heimo Scheuch, CEO of the Wienerberger Group, which employs more than 17,000 people worldwide, received the Knight’s Cross of Merit last autumn. Semmelrock Stein + Design Kft. Has been a significant player in Hungarian paving and slab production for more than 20 years. The company’s first factory in 1958, also in Austria, was set up in 1998 in Ócsa. The importance of the company within the international group is shown by the fact that the Hungarian daughter and the experience gained here have played an timeless role in the company’s expansion in Central and Eastern Europe since then. Pipelife Hungária Műanyagipari Kft. Is the largest plastic pipe manufacturing company in Hungary. The history of its predecessors can be traced back to 1922, when the Hungarian Button and Plastics Industry Co. was established. The Pipelife Group was founded in 1989 with a 50-50% stake in the Belgian construction company Solvay and the Austrian construction company Wienerberger. In 2012, Pipelife became 100% owned by Wienerberger. * HVG Top 500, The 500 largest Hungarian companies in 2020 –
