Tuned Global expands African footprint with Jumamo partnership

Nov 21, 2023

Music Business Worldwide November 21, 2023 Con Raso, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Tuned Global. In a move to further solidify its foothold in the thriving African music landscape, Australia’s Tuned Global has announced a new partnership with Jumamo, a Nigerian music streaming app. Tuned Global has been actively increasing its presence in the African music scene through strategic collaborations with key players, including WAW MUZIK , Sewasew Multimedia and Tieme Music . The business-to-business music services provider says its partnerships with these companies aim to support local efforts to create tailor-made streaming services for the market, from startups to telecommunications companies. The latest addition to Tuned Global’s roster of partnerships in Africa is with Jumamo, a streaming service that seeks to promote local repertoire and uplift African artists. Notably, Jumamo has introduced what it claims to be the first online radio platform that compensates both artists for their streams and playlist curators for the popularity of their curated playlists. “At Jumamo, we’ve worked to create a music experience that really focuses on the music and artists important to Nigerian and African music lovers, while ensuring our app works perfectly for our customers,” said Chinedu Chukwuji, Director of Jumamo. “We’re gearing up for our launch, a day that’s come far more quickly than anticipated thanks to Tuned Global, who have helped us get the right content to music fans in a smooth and seamless way.” Chinedu Chukwuji, Jumamo “We’re gearing up for our launch, a day that’s come far more quickly than anticipated thanks to Tuned Global, who have helped us get the right content to music fans in a smooth and seamless way.” Jumamo users can explore a vast library of over 75 million African songs and beats on the platform, as highlighted on its website . In addition to the partnership with Jumamo, Tuned Global has expanded its collaboration with Sewasew Multimedia, an Ethiopian music and podcast streaming platform. The expansion includes adding the Universal Music Group catalog to its service and supporting the launch of their religious streaming service, Betemezmur. Sewasew, known for directly signing over 100 artists and having a deal with Ethio telecom, is a key player in the Ethiopian music market. “We are thrilled to partner with Tuned Global and Universal Music Group to bring their extensive catalogue of music to the Ethiopian market via a service that leads the market in experience and content,” said Abraham F., Managing Director, Sewasew Multimedia. Tuned Global also has an existing partnership with Tieme Music, a digital streaming service launched in 2022 by a Ghanaian startup founded by Paris-based music producer Franck Osei-Mensah. “Tuned Global has been an invaluable partner for more than a year. They enabled us to swiftly enter the Ghanaian market with a highly professional offering, right from day one.” Charlène Osei, Tieme Music “Tuned Global has been an invaluable partner for more than a year. They enabled us to swiftly enter the Ghanaian market with a highly professional offering, right from day one. Additionally, they played a crucial role in our innovative approach to catering to our target demographic,” said Charlène Osei, Country Manager for Ghana at Tieme Music. Tieme Music says its survey has found that Ghanaian users primarily opt for YouTube because it’s free, and prefer the offline feature when it comes to music streaming services. “Thinking outside the box, we introduced a system where users could earn offline minutes by watching ads. Although this may seem straightforward, its implementation required Tuned Global’s technological expertise. It marked a distinctive approach in this market, especially when coupled with our extensive Ghanaian music catalog,” Osei added. Sub-Saharan Africa emerged as the world’s fastest-growing music market in 2022, according to data from the IFPI , contributing significantly to global recorded music revenues. Streaming services played a significant role, generating USD $17.5 billion, or 67% of total global music revenues. With the increasing influx of investments in African startups, including substantial venture capital funding, the region is witnessing a surge in music-related ventures. “The energy and innovation in African markets are inspiring, and we’ve found that our partners there are looking for new ways to engage listeners, highlight local artists, and solve complex technical problems.” Con Raso, Tuned Global “The energy and innovation in African markets are inspiring, and we’ve found that our partners there are looking for new ways to engage listeners, highlight local artists, and solve complex technical problems,” said Con Raso, Tuned Global’s Managing Director. “Every market and country are unique, and streaming services are embracing this, taking international and regional heavyweights on. They turn to us to help make sure their ideas come to market fully formed and highly functional.” Tuned Global’s collaboration with African players is part of a broader strategy to deepen its involvement in the African music scene, the company said. The company aims to continue supporting local innovators, startups, and telcos in navigating the opportunities presented by the African music market. Music Business Worldwide
