2About Technology Foundation STW
Technology Foundation STW can trace its roots back to the programme for Technical Physics and Innovation initiated by the FOM Foundation at the end of the 1970s. In 1981 STW was officially established as a foundation to serve the entire spectrum of technical sciences. Since then the foundation's objective has been to realise knowledge transfer from excellent technical scientific research. Several years ago the emphasis in the mission was changed to knowledge transfer between the technical sciences and users so as to emphasise the role of the users in all STW projects. During the research projects users provide valuable recommendations and contribute their own knowledge, which can lead to a tightening of the research question. Ultimately innovation – or in STW terms utilisation – is the result of the joint efforts between researchers and users.

Latest Technology Foundation STW News
Jan 19, 2015
Suzanne Blotenburg 14 January, 2015 News The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science have granted the so-called STW grants. Eight startups received a sum of 250.000 euro each to turn their scientific ideas into commercial success. Technology Foundation STW realises the transfer of knowledge between the technical sciences and users. It does this by funding excellent technical scientific research and by bringing researchers and users together in each project. 3DPPM, MyLife Technologies, SolarSwing Energy, LUMICKS, ARTPred, Nerdalize, Oncodrone and Madam Therapeutics received a quarter million. Another 31 companies received a smaller amount of 40.000 euro’s. “The startups that receive this grant have proven the ability to transfer valuable academic research into economic and social value”, says Secretary of State Sander Dekker. Proposals for the grants were judged by research organisations STW, ZonMw and NOW, whom specifically paid attention to scientific innovation and commercial perspectives of the involved startups as well as the teams and links to the universities. 3DPPM 3DPPM (University of Eindhoven) produces recycled thermoplastic powders for improved SLS 3D printing. Currently over 90 percent of the powder used goes to waste. With this technology more than 50 percent can be reused. MyLife Technologies MyLife Technologies (University of Twente) develops novel microneedle arrays for transdermal transport. The micro needles offer advantages over classical neeldes and the potential for integration with analysis or smart delivery systems allows for faster, more accurate medical care. SolarSwing Energy SolarSwing (University of Nijmegen) combines effective solar control with high solar power production using efficient solar cells. The SolarSwing uses the sun in favor of the building: diffuse light enters as daylight while all direct light is turned into useful energy. LUMICKS LUMICKS is a spin-off from the VU University in Amsterdam, bringing to market a revolutionary technology enabling to produce videos of DNA-protein interactions at the single molecule level, which is key to e.g. cancer research. ARTPred Researchers at Erasmus MC have investigated that quantitative analysis of urine microbiome, can predict embryo implantation failure with 96 perdent accuracy. It is ARTPred’s objective to develop a clinically validated robust test that can predict failure of implantation of an embryo produced by IVF. Nerdalize Nerdalize (University of Groningen) heats buildings with existing computer power. By using the same energy twice, Nerdalize energizes houses for free whilst selling the generated computing power to clients. Oncodrone Oncodrone (RadboudUMC ) is a life sciences company developing novel therapeutics for epithelial derived malignancies including prostate-, breast-, lung-, pancreas- and bladder cancer. Madam Therapeutics Madam (LUMC and AMC) is an acronym for Molecular Anti-infective Drugs from Amsterdam. A privately held research-based biotechnology company which develops and commercializes a proprietary new class of antibiotics called cidins. Share this:
