The future of commercial aviation may be upon us and it could resemble something out of a Marvel movie. A windowless jet concept by the name of the ‘Ixion’ was unveiled at the National Business Aviation Associate Show by a company named Technicon. The Ixion was instantly a hit with the crowd and it quickly created a buzz around the showroom floor. What was so amazing about this vehicle? It lacked windows. Two of the most common fears in the world are claustrophobia and the fear of flying. So should we really be surprised that people have reservations about flying in a windowless jet? Looking deeper into the machine may reveal that there is little cause for fear. The Ixion looks like a machine out of the movies. It is a sleek black aircraft without any windows. Instead, on the inside, the walls are lined with screens. These screens can display anything on them in order to give the passengers in the cabin a new experience. Cameras mounted on the outside of the plane will capture the real time surroundings if they are particularly beautiful. Otherwise a demonstration showed the interior screens displaying the city of Paris or the rainforest. This technology would obviously be a hit on commercial flights as it would drum up interest in longer flights. One of the primary complaints about flying stems from the fact that it is so boring and the majority of the flight is spent in the clouds without a view. These screens could change everything. This technology is still considered ‘future tech’ which means that it is a long ways off from being displayed on any public airline as of this writing. Though with the way airlines are pushing for more traffic and customers, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it sooner than later.
