SparkLabKC selects 10 startups each year for a 90-day intense, in-residence, mentor-driven program that provides up to $18,000 in seed capital, business advisory services, free workspace and a formal demonstration day with potential investors. This is a proven accelerator program adapted to the Kansas City region. The program builds on public-private partnerships and the strengths of the region's vast entrepreneurial community. The Kansas City-based business accelerator program has assembled 10 emerging companies from the region to boost their development ahead of a presentation to potential investors. It is the lab’s third class of companies. Each of the 10 companies hails from the Kansas City region and will receive up to $18,000 in financing, free workspace, legal, accounting and financial advisory services, and help from mentors in various industries. Mentors for this year’s group, the third to enter the program, include members of companies who participated in the first two classes. SparkLabKC also has moved to 127 W. 10th St. in an area designated as Kansas City’s Downtown Innovation District. The companies are still in the early stages of development. They are: College Sports USA — a social network and recruiting site for college coaches and students. Kookiedoodle Crafts — an arts and crafts studio for children and families. Lazser Down — a digital alternative to traditional football down markers and chain systems. OliveMonday — sends monthly bundles of craft supplies and tools to create your own accessories and personalize wardrobes. PopBookings — an app to connect event staffing companies with personnel. Rock-it Launcher — a smartphone app for organizing and managing its contents. Royal Loyal — a customer loyalty app designed for smaller retailers. The Swapping Co. — an online market for consignment stores. Talk2Me — allows therapists to connect with those who need help through secure online sessions.
