September 19, 2023 05:50 AM One of Michigan's leading kitchen and bath design businesses has acquired one of the state's top glass service companies. Wixom-based KSI Kitchen & Bath on Thursday announced the acquisition of Rochester Hills-based Henderson Glass. The acquisition includes all six Henderson Glass locations and Henderson's flat glass business from Safelite Group. Safelite Group acquired the 108-year-old Henderson Glass just a little over a year ago. Related Safelite retains the auto glass business, according to Dave Karras, KSI's senior director of marketing. The acquisition was complete Sept. 1. All of Henderson's 41 employees will stay on following the move, Karras said in an email to Crain's. The move allows KSI to focus on growing its flat glass business across a variety of areas, specifically residential and commercial, according to Henderson Glass General Manager Vince Moynihan. "I'm confident that the sale of Henderson Glass to KSI sets up our employees, customers and vendors with the best opportunity for continued growth and success," Moynihan said in news release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Officials from both companies did not respond to a Crain's request for additional information. The acquisition improves KSI's standing as a provider of kitchen and bath design, cabinetry and flat glass service. KSI President and CEO Tony Achatz in a statement said his group is ecstatic to add Henderson Glass into the fold. "(Henderson's) commitment to outstanding glass service and customer satisfaction is a perfect fit for KSI and our vision — to be the most recommended provider for creating spaces in the home that people will love," Achatz said. KSI Kitchen and Bath is a privately held, family-owned home design and remodeling firm specializing in kitchen and bath design. The 52-year-old company operates 13 design centers in Michigan and Ohio. It moved its headquarters from Brighton to Wixom in early 2022. Henderson was founded 117 years ago by Harry and William Henderson as a tire company with six stores. In 1929, the company took a hit during the Great Depression and lost all of its stores. Tthe founders rebuilt the company in the 1930s to become Henderson Tire Co. By the 1940s, Henderson introduced auto glass replacement services and sales in addition to tire services.
