Fancy a fine piece of art for a song

Jun 3, 2021

news, local-news, The Lock-Up, James Drinkwater, Michael Bell, Lucas Grogan, Newcastle art It's back with a bang. Find yourself a Drinkwater, or Bell, or Gardiner, or Marti, or Grogan. The Lock Up creative space in Hunter Street, Newcastle East, will launch Collect, its annual fund-raising art show, on Friday at 5.30pm, offering more than 65 works of art and sculpture by Hunter and Newcastle-based artists for sale. The exhibit is the non-profit gallery's major annual fundraiser, with the creative space taking a 40 per cent commission from the sale of each work. The show is also a chance for local artists, whether established or emerging, to support the gallery, which has national standing for its bold programming. And, it's also an opportunity for local art lovers to buy a piece from a famous artist at a reasonable price (like a Michael Bell piece featuring his specialty, dogs, for $750, or a James Drinkwater for $550). The show is first-in, first-served, with an online sale of the artworks going live at the same time as doors open. All artworks have a fixed price set by the artist. Prices range from $150 to $5900 (for a piece by Dani Marti). Artists with works in the show include Ben Adams, Gillian Adamson, Nick Barlow, Dean Beletich, Michael Bell, Brigitte Beyer, Sally Bourke, Michelle Brodie, Megan Burley, Lyndall Campbell, Wanjun Carpenter, Rob Cleworth, Dale Collier, Dino Consalvo, Lottie Consalvo, Jen Denzin, Andy Devine, James Drinkwater, Helen Dunkerley, Sophia Emmett, Ryan Fitzgerald, Leslie Fitzsimmons, Brendan Frost, Aidan Gageler, Ben Gallagher, Peter Gardiner, Paul Graham, Michelle Gearin, Lucas Grogan, Ellie Hannon, John Heaney, Ileigh Hellier, Doug Heslop, Ben Kenning, Jane Lander, Peter Lankas, Jen Lanz, Dani Marti, Patrick Maverty, Edwardo Milan, Liz O'Brien, Olivia Parsonage, Mel Pegg, Liz Pike, Brett Piva, Scott Probst, Una Rey, James Rhodes, Bree Rooney, Alessia Sakoff, Malvika Satelkar, Jo Shand, Bella Snape, Wednesday Sutherland, Annabelle Sutton, Annika Thurbon, John Turier, Shan Turner Carroll, Gavin Vitullo, Bridie Watt, Susan Weaver, Ahn Wells, Sharon Williams, Kara Wood and Vera Zulumovski. All works will remain on show through the exhibition, which runs until June 27. /images/transform/v1/crop/frm/324VkdtvqnBSp7aYw6KyqmM/f8a081eb-53e3-4dda-8aa4-82ac4e309da1.jpg/r490_456_4724_2848_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg
