Hartwood worship service, other Hampton area events for week of Aug. 1, 2022

Worship serviceat Hartwood Acres Elfinwild, Parkwood and Hampton Presbyterian churches will partner to host a combined outdoor worship service at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 at the Hartwood Acres amphitheater, 4070 Middle Road, Hampton. The service will be led by the pastors of the participating churches. Hampton Presbyterian’s praise band and the Parkwood praise members will contribute music to the service, and communion will be offered Members are encouraged to donate to their individual churches as usual, although money collected that day will be donated to the North Hills Community Outreach, HEARTH and Anchorpoint. Royal Blvd., Shaler, 412-486-5400, Dirk Lesnett. Citizens PoliceAcademy set The Hampton Township Police Department is offering its fourth Citizens Police Academy. The program is designed to give residents a better understanding of the criminal justice system, particularly the role police officers play in the community. The academy is free and will be held every Sunday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 11 through Nov. 20 at the Hampton Township Community Center, 3101 McCully Road. Applications can be picked up at the Hampton Township Police Department beginning July 25. Please complete and return the application no later than Sept. 1 to be considered for the academy. Family concert The Rick Laus Jazz Band will perform from 2-3 p.m. Aug. 7 at the North Park Harmar Shelter as part of the Autism Pittsburgh and Azure Family Concerts Pittsburgh series. Tickets are free and can be reserved at azurepittsburgh.org. St. Barnabas 5K St. Barnabas Charities hosts the 31st annual Free Care 5K, presented by Paracca Interiors Flooring America, on Aug. 6. The race will begin at 9 a.m. at the St. Barnabas Gibsonia campus on Meridian Road. Proceeds from the annual event support the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which affords $6 million in care to patients and residents every year. Competitive and amateur runners, joggers, walkers, teams, stroller pushers and wheelchair racers of all ages will enjoy a rolling 3.1-mile out and back course. Depreciation Lands Museum events Mark your calendars for these events at Depreciation Lands Museum, 4743 S. Pioneer Road, Hampton: • Flax to Linen, 1-4 p.m. Aug 28. Come to watch the process and perhaps to lend a hand. Admission is charged. • Hydref, the museum’s fall festival, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 1.
