Email address 1: 07 May 2013, Newspaper: Issue 849 Former UBS executive Can Uran has become chief investment officer at Emea Capital, the bond arbitrage manager led by Osman Semerci. Before joining Emea, Uran was global co-head for emerging markets trading at the Swiss bank for three years. He was a member of UBS’s FICC executive board covering global fixed income, currencies and commodities. Between 2007 and 2010, Uran worked at Merrill Lynch, latterly running emerging markets credit trading, following 11 years at Goldman Sachs, where he led regional credit trading in several sectors. Uran started his career at Morgan Stanley’s derivative products division in New York, after getting an engineering degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Semerci was global head of fixed income, commodities and currencies at Merrill during the credit boom. He left the bank in late 2007. Merrill Lynch was rescued by Bank of America during the credit crisis, which erupted the following year. In April 2008, Semerci became chief executive of alternative asset manager Duet Group, subsequently quit and set up Emea Capital last year. Emea’s capital global income fund started trading a year ago. It has been delivering returns at an annualised rate of just over 7%. It focuses on fixed-income securities in the global financials sector.
