Local medical supply companies merge

Jan 8, 2015

Email  |  Twitter  |  LinkedIn  |  Google+ After seeing an increase in business over the last few years, Mid-South Medical & Mobility has acquired Allied Medical. The medical supply company, which was founded in 1998, expands its business base through the acquisition, according to David Bowman , Mid-South Medical's managing partner. Allied Medical, which has been in business for 41 years, will keep its location on Mendenhall, but will be renamed to reflect the new ownership. The company's four employees will join Mid-South Medical's staff of 22. Bowman said the acquisition came together after his company had begun exploring opportunities to expand into areas Allied Medical focused in, including supplies for patients who have to wear waste elimination bags, support and compression hoses, bed pads and chair lifts. Several of those products aren't covered by Medicare, but several of Mid-South Medical's products are covered are. Those products include lift chairs, shower safety kits, wheelchairs and scooters. "I became aware of the fact they might be available for sale, and we have some really good ideas we could bring to their location," Bowman said. "By acquiring them, we probably advanced our efforts a year or two quicker. " While Bowman wouldn't discuss financial details of the acquisition, he said Mid-South Medical is looking to expand Allied's product lines and inventory. "The people at the location were really limited with what they were allowed to do, and the staff is genuinely excited," he said. "And it will provide us the opportunity to offer everything someone who is trying to stay in their home and not go into a nursing facility might need.
