5 photos Company: FiksuHeadquarters: BostonWebsite: fiksu.comTop local executive: Micah Adler,… more Lately, the mobile industry seems to be growing as fast as the technology that powers it — and the Boston Business Journal’s latest list of the largest Mobile Technology Companies in Massachusetts offers proof of that upward trend. For this year’s list, the BBJ research team adjusted its parameters to rank only participating firms headquartered in Massachusetts. That modification trimmed a couple of firms that since last year’s list have been acquired by out-of-state parents: New York-based AOL (NYSE: AOL1.BE) acquired Millennial Media, which ranked No. 2 in 2015; meanwhile Airvana, which previously ranked No. 8, was acquired by North Carolina-based CommScope. Even in their absence, the 22 participating firms on this year’s list employ more than 1,500 in the Bay State and 2,900 across all their offices. 5 photos Company: FiksuHeadquarters: BostonWebsite: fiksu.comTop local executive: Micah Adler,… more More than half of this year’s participants reported increases in both their Massachusetts and companywide employee head counts. The top three gainers, in terms of Massachusetts staff, were No. 1-ranked Everbridge, which increased its local headcount by 51 people; No. 6-ranked SessionM, which increased that number by 53; and No. 9-ranked Intrepid Pursuits, which added 25 staff in the Bay State. A SessionM spokesperson credited the company’s growth in its headcount to the need to hire engineer, product and sales support after signing up “several category-leading Fortune 500 clients” to its Mobile Marketing Cloud platform. A spokesman for Everbridge also cited increased customer demand, noting that the firm “added over 500 customers around the globe and now has over 2,600 enterprise customers worldwide. " At least one industry insider feels the Bay State is fertile ground for mobile tech’s continued growth. “Massachusetts’s deep talent pool and long track record in mobile innovation makes it a great place for growing mobile companies,” said Matt Gross, principal at Mobile First Software and founder and president of the nonprofit Mobile Monday Boston. “Today’s mix consists of hundreds of startups, a number of growth-stage companies, and significant engineering offices for Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. All of this makes for a great ecosystem.” Related Content
