Though many bands have tried, none articulate the real-life apocalypse facing humanity as vividly and succinctly as CATTLE DECAPITATION. With Death Atlas from 2019 they reached the peak of this development, which perhaps led some to believe that they could not go beyond such a feat, but Terrasite teaches her otherwise. “After an album like Death Atlas you have to make a U-turnsays guitarist Josh Elmore. “Everything about this album – the concept, the artwork, the music, etc. – was a final statement. The only way to advance is through rebirth. In approaching the latest album, it was necessary not only to maintain the musical direction the band aimed for from the start, but also to further explore the ambient/textural elements that were part of Death Atlas.” So penetrates Terrasite continues to push its sound into more epic and diverse realms, and in the hands of vocalist Travis Ryan, the dominant concept takes on a new and disturbing direction. “I wanted to do the 180 degree counterpart to Death Atlas. I had the idea for the concept years ago, and since Death Atlas was so dark and brooding, I wanted the complete opposite effect – I wanted it to take place in daylight. I’ve always found horror in daylight to be very unsettling, so I wanted to make sure that what’s on the cover takes place in daylight, which is also reflected in the lyrics.“ The latest single “Scourge Of The Offspring”, he continues, “makes up most of the album concept, which the first song, ‘Terrasitic Adaptation’, and the cover artwork set in motion in a way. The title is a Ryan-invented word that brings together “Terra-” meaning “earth” and “-site” derived from the Greek word “-sitos” meaning “food”. “The combination of the two words means ‘Earth Eater’. It’s a metaphor for humanity’s role in destroying the planet and a pun on the very appropriate word ‘parasite’.“ This is illustrated by the artwork by Wes Benscoter (Vader, Creator, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy), a longtime collaborator of the band, vividly brought to life. “We see the nymph stage of this human-cockroach hybrid, which is more of an adult who has just molted from its ootheca stage, startled, confused, frightened, but also pissed off.“ The band worked again with producer Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Allegaeon) who knows the individual styles of the band members and how to bring out the best in them, brought Tony Parker from Midnight Odyssey for piano and synthesizer.
