Japan’s LifeRobotics gets $4.4m funding from Koden, Mitsubishi UFJ, Omron

Mar 10, 2016

chalida@dealstreetasia.com March 10, 2016: &nbsp LifeRobotics , Japanese developer of a cooperative working robot called Coro, has closed a series A round with total fundraising of about 5 million yen ($4.4 million). Apart from existing investors, this round is also funded by Japan’s leading industrial electronics manufacturer  Koden Holdings , Mitsubishi UFJ Capital and Omron Ventures . This move follows a $2.2 million fundraising last year, led by Global Brain (GB) with participation from Nippon Technology Venture Partners (NTVP) and Lead Capital Management (LCM) . It will use the funding for a marketing initiative and technological developments, according to AVCJ . After closing last year’s round, NTVP’s CEO Kazutaka Muraguchi and GB’s venture partner Hidetaka Aoki have joined the Board of Directors and GB’s CEO Yasuhiko Yurimoto has been appointed as an outside auditor, according to The Bridge . Founded in 2007 by Dr. Woo-Keun Yoon, LifeRobotics has been developing cooperative working robots and demonstrated ‘Coro’, a co-robot for industrial work for the first time at Japan’s International Robot Exhibition in December last year. With the company’s patent-pending Transpander technology, Coro is created to help improve workers’ productivity and automate manufacturing processes safely. Last month, US-based market researcher International Data Corporation estimated that global spending on robotics would reach $135.4 billion by 2019. Meanwhile, SoftBank China Venture Capital has raised a $459-million fund to invest in robotics and advanced industrial applications. Also read:
