President,Energy Efficiency Done Right About the author: Dennis G. Roberts President of Energy Efficiency Done Right Consultant to Gerson Lehrman Group and TGR Research for Energy Efficiency and Windows Past contributing author... Member since 2005 21 views “Measured against its own objectives, COP26 did not deliver. The countries that are primarily responsible for the worsening climate crisis failed to step up at the world’s annual climate summit, which ended in Glasgow not long ago. The world’s economies failed to make commitments to keep planetary warming to 1.5°C. Warming above that level, scientists agree, results in conditions that aren’t just bad, but irrecoverably catastrophic.” A new flagship UN report on climate change is now out indicating that harmful carbon emissions from 2010-2019 have never been higher in human history, is proof that the world is on a “fast track” to disaster. The global PPP (Pathetically Planned Planet) emission reduction plan continues to fall further and further behind goals and met minimum standards to prevent irrevocable damage. We have a bad problem getting worse with every country threatened but 75% of Indian districts and other countries in that region vulnerable to climate crisis. Why do we have a Pathetically Planned Planet emission reduction plan? The plan was not well thought out to ensure success. We need to prioritize goals on a short-, medium-, and long-term basis and then meet them. Minimize energy use then initiate renewables. We can exceed our emission reduction goals, but we must make major changes to accomplish that. The US Department of Energy estimates that 30% of all energy produced is wasted! It is beyond explanation why this can still be said today! If, as a planet we could reduce that first to 5% then even lower, individual countries could reach their zero emission goals! Infiltration in buildings and structures has been estimated to be responsible for 6-9% of our total annual energy use and reducing that should be a priority. Buildings on our planet use over 72% or all the electricity and create about 40% of all our emissions. Thermal Management can be the vehicle to dramatically reducing that 30% of energy wasted and the vast ongoing infiltration. Energy Efficiency Done Right and our India distributor recently did a case study on quite typical India office building and through a program to thermally manage heat gain through their extensive glazing, managed to achieve an estimated year and a half payback! In less than two years the building owner can be using energy savings to fund another huge efficiency project! By making the energy hog buildings and structures the priority we can obtain significant reductions in our wasted energy. All projects now should have a payback of eight years or less and should be initiated before any renewable energy project.
