Your views needed - take part in a regional survey on NHS waiting lists

Jul 8, 2021

08-07-2021 The Eastern Academic Health Science Network (EAHSN) is working with regional NHS leaders to develop a local survey to gauge the general public’s views on ways to address extended waiting lists for operations caused by the pandemic. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, NHS services across the UK have had to care for large numbers of critically ill people infected with the virus. This has led to longer delays for people on waiting lists for hospital services, with five million people now waiting for treatment in England for the first time. The East of England is no exception with over 500,000 now on a waiting list. EAHSN is keen to get a diverse and representative response and wants to reach out to as many people as possible. The survey will be open until 23 July 2021. It is likely to take no more than 10 minutes to complete and the results will help to inform strategy moving forward. Please note the responses will be anonymous. Piers Ricketts, Chief Executive of Eastern AHSN, says: "We are seeking your views on waiting lists and whether you would be prepared to have a procedure at another hospital in the East of England if it meant that you would have the treatment quicker than at your local hospital. "One option being considered is to set up dedicated sites within the East of England for certain procedures, where people could receive their care from a different, but appropriately qualified, medical team. The type of procedures under consideration are planned, non-urgent procedures. Examples include but are not limited to heart procedures, hip and knee replacements, and hernia repairs. Emergency care and maternity services are not being considered for any change in location."   Eastern AHSN (Academic Health Science Network) turn ideas into health impact by bringing together all partners in the health sector to develop and deliver innovative care.
