E4 Married At First Sight's Ella reveals 'struggle' over false rumours The 29-year-old told ITV's Lorraine about the backlash she received over the claims which have been quashed by the Weston bride and the show's producers Bookmark Ella said she felt there was "a lot of pressure" on her during filming (Image: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock) Sign up to our daily newsletter for the latest local and breaking news in Bristol. Sign Up × One of the brides from the new series of Married at First Sight (MAFS) UK has revealed how she "struggled" with rumours about her before entering the show. Ella Morgan Clark will make history on the E4 show as the first transgender star to walk down the aisle. The 29-year-old clinic consultant from Weston-super-Mare appeared on ITV's Lorraine today (September 18) alongside fellow bride Laura ahead of the premiere of the latest series tonight. During the interview, Ella spoke about some of the "backlash" she has received after being unveiled as one of the brides. She also spoke about claims her groom was not told before the show that she was transgender. Ella quashed this rumour by saying the MAFS production team told her partner that she had transitioned. Speaking about making history as the first transgender bride to tie the knot on MAFS, Ella told Lorraine: "I knew I would get a lot of backlash and a lot of hate as the first transgender person. And I’ve always struggled labelling myself as a trans person because you feel a sense of shame sometimes, and I’m lucky to have my family but it has shown me the negative side." Ella, who lives with her nan, continued: "This shouldn’t be making history; this should be normal conversation. It was a lot of pressure for me because I felt like I had to be the voice for the whole community. I’m no different than the other girls. "It was the backlash that I struggled with of ‘Channel 4 are bad for faking it,’ I wasn’t going to marry someone and not let him know." This year's MAFS contestants. (Image: Channel 4) A spokesperson for MAFS also confirmed that Ella's groom was informed that she was transgender and that she had transitioned before they exchanged vows. Speaking to Metro.co.uk , they said: "Since we revealed this year’s cast, there’s been much speculation on Ella’s match and what her match was told in advance of the meeting at the altar. "We want to address this recurring question, out of respect for everyone involved. In this specific instance, with Ella’s permission, the groom was made aware his bride was trans, to ensure full, informed consent before entering the experiment." Before Ella was welcomed into the MAFS family, the show had hosted three same-sex weddings. The gay and lesbian pairings of series past include Matt Jameson and Daniel McKee, Thomas Hartley and Adrian Sanderson, and Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson. The latter couple are still together, having said "I do" in the 2022 series. Earlier this month, Jenna revealed that she and Zoe have two wedding anniversaries, with the first being on April 7, the day they filmed their wedding scenes, and the second on September 5, when their wedding actually aired to the nation. Jenna added: "For those of you in this years cast, whatever your outcome try and breathe it in. You could be right in the centre of the best year of your life, failing that you’ll learn so much about yourself if you’re open to."
