Top 5 gadgets of the month

May 31, 2023

May 30, 2023 Table of Contents Dyson 360 Vis Nav Robot Vacuum Cleaner Robotic vacuum cleaners are my passion. One has only to look at how the little helper is industriously hammering into the wall, trying to shovel out all the dust, as it becomes easier on the soul. To say that the robot vacuum cleaner turns into a member of the family is, of course, an exaggeration, but it can definitely be considered as a pet. Something like a dumb but useful cat. It also rummages around in all corners and strives to get stuck somewhere, but does not scatter wool, but collects it. If I worked for a vacuum cleaner and suction company, then I would try to release a robot model combined with some kind of Tamagotchi analogue, sticking a diode screen with eyes. But here, in order for the robot to be happy, it would be necessary to regularly run it to clean the apartment and clean the dust collector. Too lazy to start cleaning – you go into the kitchen, and there a robot with a sad face looks at you, drops tears. In Asia, the topic would definitely go. Next, we will talk about a clamshell smartphone from OPPO. I found out that there, it turns out, they made a Tamagotchi game for the external screen. But back to Dyson. By the way, the company has restricted access to its website from Russia. In the last couple of months, Dyson has been making us happy. Headphones combined with a breathing mask showed. And now here is the robot vacuum cleaner. For reasons unknown to me, Dyson is good at doing things that are stylish or just out of the ordinary. Why can’t others? It’s just colorful plastic. From typical vacuum cleaners Dyson 360 Vis Nav differs in design. I once tested a robot from Samsung with a similar flat muzzle. Indeed, it handles corners much better than traditional robots, which have a brush in the center of the body. And Dyson also has such a retractable side brush. In addition to the super-powerful engine, the main feature of the new robot is a 360-degree camera. Of course, in addition to the camera, the robot has all the other necessary sensors. Another feature of the robot is the so-called cyclone system. This is when in the dust collector, due to vortex flows, the dust is knocked into a lump. And see what the charging station looks like. By the way, the robot looks thick, but its height is only 97 mm. Although the picture seems that all 15 cm is there. Of the unusual (well, or rather incomprehensible) functions: The robot has a touch screen, so that the initial setup can be done without a smartphone. It’s funny. “The robot maps pockets of dust throughout the home, automatically increasing suction power as needed. Then, using the MyDyson™ app, it provides scientific proof of thorough cleaning.” I looked at a review from Dyson, reviews from bloggers. Everyone mentions the function, but no one really talks about it. In my understanding it looks like this. The robot rides around the house for a week, and then arrives with a scientifically sound proposal to kick the cat and the girl out of the apartment, because one is wool, the other is hair. The robot has so far revealed two minuses. This battery life is only 50 minutes. And the price is cosmic 2400 dollars. OPPO Find N2 Flip Finally on sale in Russia, OPPO Find N2 Flip claims to be the main smartphone of the month, as well as the best compact folding smartphone of the year. And do not say that the smartphone reminds of something. This is not a copy, but a real upgrade. The outer screen is no longer a strip, suitable only as a notification indicator. The largest diagonal of the external screen for foldable smartphones before OPPO was only 1.9 inches. Some fitness bracelets have a larger screen. The OPPO Find N2 Flip uses a 3.26-inch AMOLED panel with 900 nits of brightness. Fun fact for comparison: the iPhone 4G, released in 2010, had a 3.5-inch screen. OPPO Find N2 Flip makes full use of all the features of a large external screen: weather, notifications, timers, music control, Always-On display, and the most convenient way is to use it as a viewfinder for portrait photography. A 50 MP main sensor and a 32 MP selfie camera, developed in collaboration with Hasselblad engineers, are responsible for photography. OPPO has re-engineered the hinge mechanism so that the inner screen has no crease at the folds and the case halves fit snugly together. The folding mechanism can be fixed in a half-open state. The opening angle is from 45 to 110 degrees. There is no need to worry about the safety of the flexible screen: the smartphone can withstand at least 400,000 opening and closing cycles. See how the screen folds when closed: The OPPO Find N2 Flip has a 6.8-inch internal screen with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 1200 nits. In terms of hardware, the smartphone also did not disappoint. The battery will last for 20 hours of video or 16 hours of mobile internet. The smartphone has from 8 to 16 GB of RAM and a drive of 256 or 512 GB. But the main “feature” of the smartphone is the “cold” Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ chipset based on the 4 nm process technology. Below are screenshots of two tests for 60 minutes each for throttling (decrease in performance under load). On the left is a South Korean brand smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset (under load, performance drops by 59% of the nominal value), and on the right is the OPPO Find N2 Flip (standard throttling at 20%). Three years after the first clamshell with a flexible screen, we can finally say that smartphones are completely ready and will not disappoint. It’s funny that the closest to the ideal device was made not by the company that first tried to return this form factor, but by OPPO. And, yes, and of course, you can answer calls by simply opening your smartphone! Bang & Olufsen Beosystem 72-23 Sometimes you come across such things that you look at and understand that even if you buy them for yourself, they will look ridiculous with you. An example is the Bang & Olufsen Beosystem 72-23. This is a vinyl player with two speakers. Limited edition. It is relatively affordable for everyone – 65 thousand dollars. Well, that is, of course, you can’t buy this from a salary, but by printing out a capsule, it’s quite possible. But then you look at the player, at the speakers, at the control system in the form of a ring-stand, and you understand that it will look ridiculous in your apartment. For such a thing, you need everything as in the picture above – windows to the floor, a lot of free space. And, in general, a fenced area and a private house are desirable. And then I imagine, I turned on such an evening to listen to Haydn or Pink Floyd, and against the background of the neighbors above the floor, they first muzzle each other with stools, and then, having joined forces, they ramble with the police. As with Dyson, again I don’t understand why others can’t make such beautiful things. They just knocked together pieces of plywood, and that’s it. On the other hand, we are also not made of sticks and brown substance. Here is the Ritmix LP-240. It costs only 5,500 rubles. Projection laptop from Sightful We are slowly moving into the future. Sightful has announced the first laptop with a projection screen. Looks awesome. The picture, of course, was given a juicy one. At first I even thought that it would soar. Of course no. The girl is wearing special glasses connected to a computer in her lap. Projection glasses create a 100-inch virtual screen. You come to a cafe and launch a personal giant screen that no one but you sees. Batteries will last for 5+ hours. The device itself looks like a keyboard unit with glasses on a string. Powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The modest characteristics are understandable, given that the product is being created by a startup. Plus, it’s not even the final sample yet. Now the company offers to buy a test device for $2,000. There are 1000 pieces in total. I doubt that the startup will fly, since there are no unique things that Lenovo could not repeat here. However, I can well imagine the development when such projection glasses can be purchased for any laptop. For planes and trains, the thing will generally be ideal, otherwise for some reason the neighbors in the row believe that since you turned on the laptop, it is their inalienable right to watch what you are doing there. The main question is: do the eyes get tired of such a “virtual” screen, which in fact is a very small and bright screen located a few millimeters from the eye? To get the full picture, watch this 40 second trailer. I really liked it, as the heroine gets out of the minibus there, which resonates with reality. Usually people who need a lot of screens for fruitful work just ride minibuses so that other people who don’t need screens at all can ride the S-class. Complimentary double TV from Telly Another sci-fi movie. It’s a free big TV. The catch is that it has a second screen where ads will be shown. And when the TV is not being used, ads will play on both screens. Frankly, it looks like some kind of dystopia or Black Mirror episode (by the way, the new season is coming soon!). So the concept is to give away a 55-inch TV for free. And, in general, there is nothing like that here, since TVs are now terribly cheaper. The other day we had news that Sberbank was selling a QLED TV for only 36,000 rubles. The TV has a built-in camera so you can call on Zoom. But I suspect that the camera is also needed in order to check from time to time if the advertising screen is covered with something. Of the curious options on the TV, they promise a powerful built-in soundbar and the ability to use only a small screen to turn the TV into a music player. Again, correct logic. It is necessary to give as many application scenarios as possible. If the owner gets tired of watching ads, then he can turn it off for only $ 500 and keep the TV for himself. By the way, affordable price. What do you think? It is clear that such a system will not work in Russia. Too small market. Here we need global brands that are ready to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into advertising promotion. I think the concept is intriguing.
