Slaves dedicate cover of ‘Shutdown’ to Boy Better Know during Reading secret set

Aug 27, 2016

Slaves announce UK headline tour - Priority Tickets available tomorrow Slaves dedicated their cover of 'Shutdown' to Boy Better Know during their secret set at Reading tonight (August 27). The Tunbridge Wells duo had performed on the Main Stage earlier in the day, but appeared again on the BBC Introducing Stage at 7:15pm to play a handful of older songs. "This last song is for Boy Better Know," guitarist Laurie Vincent said before praising the grime collective for their output. The band then performed their version of Skepta 's track, before drummer and singer Isaac Holman leaped into the crowd to end the set. Slaves opened their 25-minute performance with 'Are You Satisfied? ', the title track of their 2015 debut album. Holman told the crowd early on in the set: "This is the first stage we ever played at Reading, thanks to BBC Introducing for having us back. We're going to mostly play a selection of old songs we played about four years ago, you know? So if you know, you know. " Ahead of new single 'Spit It Out', Vincent asked the crowd to "raise a drink for fallen heroes", the guitarist's dead goldfish. "This is nice, I like this. I'm a happy boy," Holman declared after 'She Grew Old'. His bandmate then introduced the next track, 'Bad Machine', by saying: "We're going to play a really, really, really old school song now. This is Isaac's dad's favourite song so this goes out to Dave Holman. Without him we wouldn't be here.
