Healthtech startup Progressive Medical acquired by Curve

Mar 22, 2019

Melbourne, Mumbai and Silicon-Valley based Curve Tomorrow (Curve) has expanded their international network through the acquisition of WA digital health startup Progressive Medical… In what is seen as a “natural fit” for both sides, Perth-based Progressive Medical has been bought by a 10-year old digital healthcare agency, Curve. “This strategic acquisition enables Curve to continue to bring health and medicine to the digital age, transforming the way Australia – and now Western Australia – approaches healthcare,” said Sanji Kanagalingam, Curve Director. “A Perth office also allows an ideal launchpad into Asia through established business channels, promising an exciting future for Curve and the health technology space in Western Australia.” Sanji Kanagalingam Founded just over three years ago by Arthur Ong (pictured), Progressive Medical built a VR simulation application that allowed surgeons to practice before surgery as well as Cerviscreen, an app that helps patients navigate the new National Cervical Screening Program. Dr Dan Grant, the CEO of the growth centre for the Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals sector, MTPConnect, has welcomed Curve’s launch in Western Australia. “Curve is a great addition to the state’s growing MTP ecosystem, adding expertise and capabilities in the burgeoning field of digital health,” he said. Curve has a long history in developing innovative healthcare products, in collaboration with research institutes. One such is Averto, an app for dementia patients from varying cultural and language backgrounds, which assists in communication with care providers. Another is HeadCheck, an ehealth app that gives parents, coaches and health professionals an easier way to manage concussions brought upon by sport. It has been widely adopted among the AFL community and elsewhere. Curve Director and Perth local, Mohinder Jaimangal (also pictured), said the establishment of the Perth office will provide further opportunity for these products to be commercialised, creating potential revenue streams and to ultimately benefit the community that accesses their services and products. “Our ultimate goal is to positively impact one billion people through our products and services. Utilising the existing health tech knowledge on the ground in Perth and the ground-breaking progress we’ve made in Melbourne will bring us one step closer to this goal.” Mohinder Jaimangal
