“Having served three years in the Marine Corps, I thought this was some small way to say thank you to the Corps and to those young men and women that have been released from service to help them on their next chapter,” said Craig Duchossois, who has been a member of Kellogg’s Global Advisory Board since 1997 and is executive chairman of The Duchossois Group, the family’s private investment firm. Northwestern is the most recent school to benefit from the couple's generosity. Craig and his wife, Janet, were part of a group that donated $150 million to the Illinois Institute of Technology . Illinois Tech said the donation was the largest cumulative gift in the school's history, topping the $120 million donated in 1996 by Robert Pritzker and Robert Galvin. In 2017, the Duchossois Family gave $100 million to the University of Chicago Medicine. That sum to the University of Chicago is surpassed only by David Booth’s $300 million gift in 2009 for the business school now bearing his name and by Ken Griffin’s $125 million for the department of economics in 2017. Last year, the Duchossois family cashed out of its main industrial holding, which makes garage door openers and security products. In a transaction valuing the company at $5 billion, Duchossois Group agreed to sell its Chamberlain Group unit to funds managed by private-equity giant Blackstone. Terms were not disclosed. In a press release, the Kellogg School of Management said the new scholarships would go toward promoting “the distinctive Kellogg experience among veterans considering business school, expand the existing veteran community at Kellogg and engage more alumni veterans in the life of the school.” “These people are putting their fanny on the line just like our police, our firemen and people in the emergency centers of hospitals,” Duchossois said. “Sometimes our servicemen and women who have given time and exposure to the country get overlooked and this is a way to say ‘Hey, we appreciate everything you've done.’” RECOMMENDED FOR YOU
