While Fernandinho is the club captain, City have a leadership group in the dressing room which enables them to maintain some consistency when Guardiola rotates his squad. Players like Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan and Kyle Walker have all worn the armband at times this season, and now Guardiola has confirmed that Dias will join that group after an influential first season at the Etihad. Dias has just been crowned FWA Footballer of the Year, with his leadership qualities cited as a reason for his impressive victory in the first individual award of the year. Reacting to Dias' award, Guardiola revealed the news of Dias' promotion within the squad, saying club staff were surprised by just how influential he has been since signing.
