Sign Up × The husband and wife team behind the revamped Bridge Inn, Boughton , have vowed to turn it into "the best pub in Chester ." John and Sophie Hughes bought the pub just over a week ago. After a whirlwind revamp, the pub is set for a grand opening Friday evening (November 10). "This time next year I want to hold the best pub in Chester title, like I did with the best pub in Wales," said John. John, 35, and Sophie, 31, took over their first pub, the Hope & Anchor in Buckley, in 2019. In 2022, NorthWalesLive readers voted the pub, known locally as 'The Trap', the best pub in North Wales. It wasn't the best run kind of place," said John. "Now we’ve won two awards; the best pub in Wales and the best pub in Flintshire last year and the year before." John wants to repeat the feat with the Bridge. He said: "We’re doing the same with the Bridge now. We’re doing big things with it. "We want to get all the locals back in and get their trust back in the place. We’ll build it back up to where it should be." He added: "This time next year I want to hold the best pub in Chester title, like I did with the best pub in Wales." John said the refit too just over a week (Image: John Hughes) The pub has had full refurbishment, John says, with new furniture and decor. "I did everything at 100 mile-an-hour, so I’d say it took just over a week," says John. John and Sophie are planning to throw a party to celebrate the opening of the Bridge Inn from 6pm tonight, featuring a live band and buffet. John said: "I’ve got a live band on, an absolutely brilliant band who have played at the other pub before, called Quantum Thunder.
