2About Boston College Venture Competition
The Boston College Venture Competition (BCVC), a program of the Carroll School of Management, is a university-wide business plan competition designed to promote and support entrepreneurship at the undergraduate level at Boston College. With mentoring from experienced alumni and faculty, students develop and implement the skills necessary to start successful businesses. Several sessions throughout the year offer additional coaching and advice from entrepreneurs, law partners, venture capitalists, and other executives.

Tuesday Apr 14, 2015 by Jack Mulvaney - Account Manager, VentureFizz Students, faculty and community members packed into the Fulton Honors Library at the Carroll School of Management last evening to hear the final pitches of Boston College’s Venture Competition (BCVC). The BCVC is a university-wide business plan competition designed to promote and support entrepreneurship at the undergraduate level at Boston College. The finalists competed for a $20,000 first place cash prize, with the second and third place teams receiving $10,000 and $2,500 respectively. The finalists included: CoReHub , a commercial real estate marketplace that connects buyers & sellers using GPS based listings and advanced searching options such as square footage, price, and location. Helpers, an application-based platform that connects tutors and tutees to increase the efficiency in the tutoring service market. Noggin , a software solution that works with intelligent eyewear (e.g. Google Glass) to help quadriplegic individuals, who cannot speak, to communicate using head movements. Postcard , the first merit-based exposure platform for Instagram users. 1950 Collective , which creates high quality, sophisticated, and sleek fandom apparel designed by the co-founders and artists, with 10% of profits donated to a different women empowerment organization each month. Each team was given two minutes to pitch their business idea to the panelists, followed by a five minute Q&A session. The panel included some very impressive individuals and BC alumni including Greg Strakosch ‘84 of TechTarget, Kristin Keating ‘94 of EY, Bob Davis of Highland Capital Partners, John Morrissey of Shea Ventures and Bridget Akinc of the Carroll School of Management. BC’s startup and tech scene has been gaining traction over the past few years, with alumni-created companies such as Jebbit, Drizly and WePay raising over $40M from firms such Highland Capital Partners
