New York investment bank takes over Houston affiliate in expansion play

Dec 17, 2014

Email  |  Twitter New York-based Aldwych Capital Partners, a private investment bank, announced on Dec. 16 that it will take over its Houston affiliate, Houston-based Ashton Stewart Capital, a spinoff of New York-based Ashton Stewart & Co. Inc., in a move to establish its brand and expand in Houston. Not technically a merger, Aldwych will assume the branding of the current Ashton Stewart office in the Bank of America Center in downtown Houston. Ashton Stewart's two Houston investment bankers, who had already been registered with Aldwych Securities LLC, will seek out new office space in the Galleria area in 2015 under the Aldwych brand, said Jay Tchamanzar , now managing director for Aldwych. Tchamanzar and partner Marcus Stewart will maintain their leadership over the Aldwych Houston office and initiate plans to expand the Aldwych Houston team by 10 to 15 people over the next two years. In the roll-up, Aldwych will also take over Ashton Stewart's Chicago office. Houston will likely see more boutique investment houses join larger firms as their clients outgrow their reach, said Tchamanzar. Aldwych has approximately $50 million to $75 million transactional value in the pipeline in Houston, focusing primarily on lower- and mid-market companies ranging from $10 million to $150 million. Aldwych joins other investment banks eager to make their mark in Houston in late 2014. Most recently, Washington, D.C.-based England & Co. announced the opening of a Houston office on Nov. 20 at 1700 Post Oak Blvd, and prior to that, Seattle-based Cascadia Capital announced on Nov. 10 that it had hired industry veteran Bob Schwartz lead its new Houston office at 4265 San Felipe St. Suzanne Edwards covers money and law for the Houston Business Journal.
