No Comments As part of the series of sporting events that ended with the naming of San Juan as the “American Capital of Sports”, this Saturday the “Vicente Alejo Chancay” multipurpose velodrome was officially inaugurated. The celebration took place before a crowd that witnessed first the lighting of the torch and then a cycling competition. The torch was carried by local athletes, then the ribbon cutting of the Vicente Alejo Chancay Multipurpose Velodrome took place. This scenario had already seen the light a few months ago when it hosted the Pan American track cycling event and also hosted the San Juan track season. Even teams from neighboring countries such as Chile and the continental team from San Luis were installed a few weeks ago in San Juan to train in the velodrome for the next objectives, taking into account that the velodrome is classified as the best in South America. Also this Saturday, San Juan was named “American Sports Capital 2024.” To end the opening day, a cycling competition was held with a scratch test (30 laps) and elimination (48 laps). DETAILS The “Vicente Alejo Chancay” velodrome is oval-shaped and occupies an area of more than 27 thousand square meters. The building is completely covered and made up of a metal structure with thermal insulation. This structure is supported by columns weighing more than 36 tons. It is the first Multipurpose stadium in the country, suitable entirely for people with disabilities who can carry out activities such as volleyball, handball, futsal and gymnastics, among others.
