Jacinta CantatoreBunbury Herald Camera Icon Share to Facebook An innovative “pop-up hub” event has again connected local Indigenous business owners with industry leaders. After a series of highly successful events that reached out to businesses during early stages of the pandemic, the Waalitj Foundation created another ‘hub’ event through a partnership with the Alcoa Foundation. About 15 Indigenous business owners attended the Waalitj Foundation’s event at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on May 17 and 18. The business owners heard from Waalitj Hub Business Coaches, as well as representatives from Alcoa, Intertek and Programmed, discussing potential collaborative opportunities as well as giving tips to help create a successful bid through the tendering process. “Being able to deliver the pop-ups in person allows us to service our clients while connecting them with companies like Alcoa giving them the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations,” Waalitj Hub general manager Shane Devitt said. “Networking at events like these allows the wider business community to gain awareness and benefit from the breadth of strong, emerging Indigenous businesses in WA.” Since its inauguration in 2020, the Waalitj Hub has connected with more than 250 Aboriginal and Torres Strait clients.
