Nashville startup Zeumo bought by Advisory Board Co

Led by founder Hal Cato, Zeumo allows hospitals to communicate with their physicians through phones and tablets and creates a network for staff collaboration. Cato, a former Oasis Center CEO, created Zeumo in 2012 as a platform for educators and students. The business model expanded to health care, now its main focus. The Advisory Board Co., which has a Nashville consulting practice, has ties to several hospitals, and the acquisition allows Zeumo to tap into a large customer base, Cato said. He will become special projects manager for Zeumo, and the company’s seven employees will remain under the new leadership. “We were at a critical point where it was either time to do another capital round or to partner with an established company that had significant penetration into the health care market,” Cato said. “It was the right decision for the company and for our investors and our employees.” The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Zeumo provides a private app for hospital employee groups, allowing them to communicate outside of email. Doctors, for example, could use the app to swap shifts, gather input or send alerts related to their niche. “It allows them to get away from one-size-fits-all email blasts to something that is a lot more customized and relevant to the end user,” Cato said. “They are on the go, running around. We’ve found most physicians, they just ignore (email).” Zeumo began working on health care capabilities after facing headwinds in the education market and seeing interest from health care leaders, Cato said. The company has gained funding from Martin Ventures in Nashville, and Saint Thomas Health is a client. “We realized the opportunity, especially being in Nashville with the health care market,” Cato said. “It’s not quite the bureaucracy that education had.” Reach Jamie McGee at 615-259-8071 and on Twitter @JamieMcGee_. 462 CONNECT 16 TWEET 178 LINKEDIN 1 COMMENTEMAILMORE Read or Share this story: http://tnne.ws/1MSPEbW More Stories
