Greg Williams, Editor of WIRED, will kick off the morning and introduce the first speaker for the day, Godfrey Nazareth who will share how he is crushing ALS with exponential technology. Edward Chang, a neurosurgeon from UC San Francisco, will tell us about research developed in collaboration with Facebook Reality Labs that has helped lead to successful translation of brain activity into speech. Sarah Garfinkel, Professor of Clinical and Affective Neuroscience, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, will get into the neurological side of human emotion, exploring the science inside our hearts and minds. Mark Slack, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, CMR Surgical will talk about his company's surgical-robot system Versius – its robotic arms can carry out minimally invasive keyhole surgeries and procedures. Samuel Tisherman, Professor of Surgery, University of Maryland School of Medicine, RA Cowley Shock Trauma Center will share more details about the clinical trials he is leading, which are designed to improve the survival rates of gunshot and stab victims. Beth Gardiner, Journalist and author of CHOKED, will talk about the grave impact of pollution and how the air we are breathing is killing us. And Angela Saini, award-winning science journalist and broadcaster, will explore the murky history of race science.
