Founded by Nelson Sivalingam – the man behind Startups 100-featured ‘lifestyle subscription service’ Wonderush – London-based HowNow connects learners with experts from around the world via live, interactive video classes. See how we may be able to help here and here With more than 400 experts in 33 countries, the country offers one-to-one or group lessons in everything from sewing to Swahili and painting to pole fitness. It says teachers can expect to earn £2,000 a month. Aiming to tap into the smart education technology (edtech) market – expected to be worth £358bn by 2020 – HowNow will use the funding to expand its network of experts and develop additional products for teachers and students. Sivalingam said: “Through the right kind of education, I strongly believe every human being, no matter how impoverished or illiterate, can develop a new awareness of self. There are millions of people with expertise around the world that could be teaching but don’t because of lack resources and there are millions more who do not have access to high quality teaching just because of where they are based.”
